Eat Gluten or No? The age old question

To eat, or not to eat, that is thy question. What are we talking about here? We’re talking about gluten.

It’s an age old question (or at least in the terms of post-modern nutrition since about the 1970’s) that talks about whether or not gluten is good or even bad for you. Here’s what each side of the argument says.

Gluten: the good

Some will argue that gluten isn’t that bad for you. They’ll say people are just hyper sensative and that even the smallest amount of injestion of 1mcg will set off an allergic reaction. While that’s probably not true, it is true that celiac disease goes misdiagnosed. And with even more people suffering from gluten sensativity, (there are millions according to this article), it should be given it’s respect that is due as a legit health problem. The problem is that doctors don’t really understand it.

Gluten: the bad

There are all kinds of problems related with gluten sensativity, including:

  • diarrhea
  • running nose
  • headaches
  • skin rashes
  • inflammitory diseases
  • other health conditions that negatively effect your health

There are plenty more, but for time’s sake, I wanted to keep the list pretty basic. What happens is the gluten protein found in the grain (wheat, oats, barley, etc.) can set off a chain reaction that causes inflammation. And since the body doesn’t recognize this protein (it’s changed a lot since our forefathers and ancestors ate grains), it creates a pattern of disaster.

Gluten: the ugly

Some people have horrible reactions to gluten. I know of a girl that one time she ate a single piece of bread and developed hives and skin rashes and almost had to be rushed to the hosptial. Needless to say that when she was there, she about damn near died because hospitals are cesspools of filth and disgusting germs, and you want to avoid them at all costs if at all possible.  Continue reading

Vanakparti: The Health and Longevity blog

Hey everyone, Kevin here and I’m a holistic health coach that is passionate about food, nutrition and healthy living and logevity. I used to be a football player that was concerned only with performance and the short term, but now I’m focused on spreading the word about longevity. As well as health.

You see, if you don’t have health and longevity, you’re destined to live a life that is shorter than what you’re supposed to live. And if you’re not healthy, you can’t really enjoy the life that God has planned for you. Many health problems have to do with nutrition. One of the best nutrition documentarties I’ve ever seen is one by the BBC about sugar. You can have the pleasure of watching that here:

Sugar consumption is an absolutely disasterous problem in our society and world today. It’s crazy that more diseases and deaths are caused by too much food for the first time in history than too little food and starvation. But that’s what I want to help you with with this blog. I know the secrets to ending sugar addiction. To ending over eating. To ending all of these health problems that are associated with too much food/ too much bad food. I believe that if you understand the root causes of the problem, if you truly let those set in and understand them first intellectually, that you have a chance in ending your sugar addition and health problems. Then you have to get to the root emotional cause. I believe that if you sleep more, you wont have as many problems. I believe if you’re in a healthy relationship, it definitely contributes to less overeating and less stress eating. I believe that if you have passion and purpose in your life, that nutrition becomes secondary and you use it as fuel, nourishment, and a gift to share with others to contribute to the greater good of mankind. Not what you were expecting from a nutrition blog, were you? 🙂

Stay tuned for a lot of great posts on health, nutrition, longevity and how you can improve your health!
